Washing wool without fear
Jonah Peck · 2026-03-15 · 5 min

Most wool dies in a hot spin, not in the rain. Cold water, a little soap, a towel, a flat table. That is the whole ritual.
Dry it flat
Hanging a wet pullover grows the body and shrinks the sleeve. Lay it out. Shape the shoulder with your hands. Walk away.
When to dry clean
Tailored trousers and the overcoat. Not the merino mockneck. Not the scarf. Save the solvent for structure.
- Hand wash knits
- Brush coats
- Steam creases, do not iron wool dry
